What is your new year skin resolution? Don’t have one yet? Rest assured. It doesn’t take rocket science to put together a skin care regimen that truly WILL transform your skin and give you a fresh start. Here’s the best part: It should be simple. Your regimen should be very straightforward and only contain the ingredients that actually transform the skin: MEANING? No matter how good the marketing, over the counter skin care lines are often made up of molecules so big that they never make it through the skin to do anything. It is important to study the science behind skin care lines’ ingredients and verify that 1) the molecule actually makes it through the skin and 2) once inside the skin, active molecules actually build collagen, and remove sun damage.
Your dermatology provider can assist you in making those choices and selecting skin care products that actually DO transform and rejuvenate the skin. There are two objectives:
- Morning: protect against sun damage
- Evening: turn back sun damage
Dr Richards’ personal regimen includes:
- Morning regimen: TPD gentle foaming cleanser, TPD Vitamin C Serum, Sente Dermal Repair, UV Clear spf 45 sunscreen
- Evening regimen: TPD gentle foaming cleanser, TPD Retinol 10X, Sente Dermal Repair, TPD retinol eye cream
If sun damage is significant it is a good idea to consider removing a large portion of it with Active FX laser resurfacing prior to proceeding with the above regimen. In between Active FX treatments (which should be done every 1-2 years) IPL treatments can be performed biannually to remove any accumulation of sun spots.
At Torrey Pines Dermatology, all of us look forward to assisting you in transforming your skin in 2020 and helping you with all your skin care needs.
