Christine Corso – Q&A

Why Dermatology?

I grew up in Florida, and I spent countless hours on the beach perfecting my tan.  At that time, I felt sunscreen was only used by those who ‘weren’t able to tan,’ and a cure for skin cancer would be found before I was affected.  When I decided I wanted to become a Physician Assistant, I chose to shadow a dermatologist, and I learned that the effects of the sun include more than just a tan.  Skin cancer, age spots, and wrinkling are possible in your late teens and early 20s, but many of the damaging effects of the sun are avoidable.   Since I love being outside, I became passionate about helping others find ways to enjoy the outdoors while keeping their skin healthy and youthful.

What were you doing before Torrey Pines Dermatology?

After graduating Physician Assistant School in August of 2013, I started my career in dermatology in my hometown, Pensacola, Florida.  I worked for two years under the direct supervision of a general dermatologist helping patients overcome skin cancer, acne and rosacea, seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, and eczema along with various rashes.   When I moved to San Diego last fall, I was fortunate to join Torrey Pines Dermatology.

What are your go-to’s for skin protection?

For work, I use EltaMD UV Broad-Spectrum SPF 40 tinted sunscreen on my face and EltaMD UV Clear Broad-Spectrum SPF 46 on my neck, chest, ears, hands, and forearms.  For a beach day, a walk or hike with my goldendoodle, or a bike ride with my husband, I always wear hat with a wide rim rated UPF 50, a long sleeved UPF 50 shirt, EltaMD UV Sport Broad- Spectrum SPF 50 or EltaMD UV Areo Broad-Spectrum SPF 45 on my body, and Revision Intellishade Original Broad-Spectrum SPF 45 on my face.

What is your daily facial routine?

My AM routine:

  1. Sulfur based medicated wash
  2. Torrey Pines dermatology 2% salicylic acid/2% glycolic acid cleansing pads
  3. Torrey pines dermatology antioxidant moisturizing cream
  4. Tinted Sunscreen (Either EltaMD UV Daily Broad-Spectrum  SPF 40 or Revision Intellishade Original Broad-Spectrum SPF 45)
  5. Oxygenetix Makeup

My PM routine:

  1. Sulfur based medicated wash
  2. Tazorac 0.1% cream
  3. Sente Dermal Repair
  4. Latisse solution to the upper eyelids
  5. If my skin is feeling dry, Torrey Pines Dermatology Enriched Night Cream
